OAK BLUFFS — Board of Health approves coastal septic variance, declines plastic bottle ban enforcement. The board voted 2-1 to grant a variance allowing a leaching field within 300 feet of existing septic facilities at 341 Barnes Road, with Chairperson William White and Member James Butterick voting in favor and Member Tom Zinno voting against. The board also voted unanimously to decline enforcement of a single-use plastic water bottle ban requested by the Select Board, citing absent recycling infrastructure and noting that waste flows entirely to landfill.
Members determined the enforcement would be ineffective without proper municipal recycling systems in place.
