Oak Bluffs working group advances Island Theater planning. The 1 Circuit Avenue Working Group confirmed Ms. Rogers as clerk and approved a Formal Charge and Mandate after Building Inspector Adam Petkus briefed members on the structure's poor condition, including asbestos and serious structural issues.
The building, constructed around 1915 and last renovated in 2017, requires major intervention; Petkus recommended demolition and reconstruction over salvage. The group will conduct a public survey to solicit resident input on potential future uses, including an arts and cultural center, open space, and mixed-use development with retail and housing.
